SCTW 95
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR SEAFARING PERSONNEL ?
SINCE 1997 IT HAS BEEN A LEGAL REQUIREMENT FOR ALL PERSONNEL ABOARD COMMERCIAL VESSELS
TO HAVE AT LEAST A BASIC LEVEL OF FIRST AID TO THE FOLLOWING LEVELS:

*       All Seafaring personnel must have Elementary First Aid (STCW95 A VI/1-3)

*       Officer of the watch must have Proficiency in Medical First Aid (STCW95 A-VI/4-1)

*       Chief Mate and Master must have Proficiency in Medical Care (STCW95 A-VI/4-2)

          These include the following elements

*       Immediate Action

*       First Aid Kit

*       Body Structure and Function                                                        

*       Toxicology Hazards Aboard Ship                                                       

*       Examination of Patient

*       Spinal Injuries

*       Burns, Scolds and Effects of Heat and Cold

*       Fractures, Dislocations and Muscular Injuries

*       Medical Care of Rescued Persons Including:

*       Distress, Hypothermia and Cold Exposure

*       Radio Medical Advice

*       Pharmacology

*       Sterilization

*       Cardiac Arrest, Drowning and Asphyxia

*       Psychological / Psychiatric Problems
